small group overview

The Christian life is not a solo journey.  We need others along the way to care for us, point us towards truth, and encourage us on the right path.  The time invested in the DNA Group will be a critical aspect to grow, change, and be sharpened. The weekly DNA group will be the primary avenue for providing the three core areas of shepherding, discipleship, and accountability.

To maximize your time together, these ideas can give direction & structure for leading or participating in the weekly DNA groups. You will not have time to accomplish all of this, but adapt what is helpful for spiritual growth and relationships.

Open:

  • Welcome, spend time together, and build relationships.

Shepherding: provide care for one another

  • How has your week gone?

  • Any highlights to celebrate?

  • Any challenges that you are facing?

  • How is your family, work, and other relationships?

  • What else is on your heart?

Discipleship: point one another towards Christ

  • What challenged or encouraged you from the large group teaching content?

  • What challenged or encouraged you from the weekly reading?

    • Group Leaders can decide how to divide up the monthly reading and select what reading the group will do each week.

  • Ask about Scripture memory progress, solo days, or fasting.

  • Pick a chapter/book of the Bible to read through together and discuss weekly.

  • Other suggested resource ideas:

    • Pace tracker spreadsheet template to track progress and goals.

    • Suggested reading questions:

      • McLaughlin Study Guide

      • Grudem — Review questions & personal application questions at end of each chapter.

      • Loritts – what stood out to you, what challenged or encouraged you, what did you agree or disagree with?

Accountability: encourage one another

As trust and relationships build, each member can answer these questions individually and share with the group.

  • Have I spent quality time with the Lord each day in Bible reading, prayer, and spiritual disciplines?

  • Have I invested in important relationships and served my family and friends in a Christ-like way?

  • Have I been exposed to or intentionally sought lust, porn, or been in a sexually compromising situation?

  • Have I maintained integrity with my finances and stewarded my money for God through giving, spending, and saving?

  • Have I used my words to build others up or have I gossiped or cut someone down behind their back?

  • Have I been intentional in my love for my neighbor and opportunities to share the gospel?

  • As I look back on this week, can I confidently say to those I influence “Imitate me, as I have imitated Christ?”

Close:

  • Confirm next week’s meeting time and location.

  • Plan next week’s reading and questions.

  • Share any goals or action steps for next week (spiritual disciplines, memorization, solo days, etc.)

  • Share prayer requests and pray for one another.
